Dealing with Jet Lag from the U.S. to Europe
Having jet lag is common with people who travel to Europe. It happens when they travel in flight and pass through different time zones.
If you are unprepared then your stay in Europe will not be very peaceful especially the first day. You will feel more discomfort when you return to United States.
What you need to do is to make a small adjustment before you start your trip to Europe. There are certain preparations that you can follow to be free from jet lag.
A little information about how to tackle jet lag will help you to have an easy trip to Europe.
A simple thing that you can do is to have a good sleep while traveling on the plane. It is not very easy to get sleep on the plane.
If you find difficult in sleeping, try certain sleeping aids which you will get over the counter. However, make sure that it suits you.
If you have not used any sleeping aids before, use them before you travel to find out which one suits you. Take it along with you in your carry-on luggage to use on the plane.
People who travel often feel that melatonin is the best aid to overcome jet lag.
Melatonin is not Necessarily Good for Everyone
However, it may not suit everyone. It can cause tiredness, sleeplessness, and other uneasiness in some people. If you are planning to try melatonin for the first time, do that before your travel begins.
Use prescribed or over the counter melatonin that goes well with your body. If you are not interested to take any drugs, you can try having red wine that has melatonin either before or after boarding the plane.
If you are against using sleeping aids, there is a way to get rid of jet lag without using them. Make a change in your sleeping schedule at least a week before the day you want to travel to Europe.
Try to wake up early in the morning and make it earlier and earlier day by day as well going to bed earlier and earlier.
If you practice this sleeping schedule, you will be able to cope up with the different time zones you will have to go through. When you are planning to return to the United States, again practice the same thing.
However, do it in the reverse form by going to sleep later and later and waking up later and later as the days pass and reach your normal sleeping schedule.
Whatever be your plan to handle jet lag make sure that you follow a few safety methods. When you go through different time zones, listen to your body and not the mind. You should take rest when you think that your body needs rest instead of going for shopping
If you don’t rest enough and you wander around the city you will become an easy prey for the criminals. You should give good rest to the body before you are out in the city to be alert. This will help you to have a peaceful vacation in Europe and at the same time ease the strain of jet lag.
