USA Road Trips
What is a road trip? It’s defined as “a journey via automobile”. USA road trips are just referring to road trips in the USA.
It is sometimes unplanned or impromptu”,and as such encompasses any journey by car, regardless of stops en route.
If you’re going on a family road trip, or one with friends, it’s not as simple as “grab your coats, let’s go”. No, it actually is more involved. But it is still not too bad if you plan in advance. If not, any USA road trips can be a complicated mess if you just take off without proper planning. Planning is really a must because once on the road things are usually quite a bit more expensive.
That is if you forgot to bring something you need, and you have to buy it “on the road”. Also if you forgot something you cannot get while traveling it can cause many problems that could have been avoided had you double checked everything before you left.
USA Road Trip Classifications
Road tripping “professionals” break down USA road trips into several different classifications, some of which do not apply to the ordinary sight-seeing trip:
# The Classic/Touring Road trip: A cross-country trip with the intent of sight seeing.
# The speed run: From point ‘A’ to point ‘B’ as fast as possible, with no unnecessary stops.
# Park Hopping: A road trip centered on going from National Park to National Park. This is not always limited to National Parks, but could be National forests, monuments, etc.
# Regional Trips: Inner-county and trips within a state, or sometimes short trips into neighboring states.
# International trips: Road trips to the United States, Canada, Mexico, or within other foreign destinations outside of the traveler’s home country.
# Ultimate Road Trips: Usually are months in length and encompass large goals, such as driving through every state in the contiguous United States or most provinces in Canada.
# Relocation: A road trip centered on relocating from one location to another.
# caravaning: Road trips involving multiple vehicles traveling together.
Road tripping started in the early 1900’s, but the modern road trip probably started in the 1930’s. Route 66 was the mother of early road tripping. Today, modern road tripping is a fast growing hobby. It is not just a means of vacationing.
There are groups dedicated to the art of the road trip. These are known either as professional road trippers or road enthusiasts.
There are lots of them now on the Internet. A quick search on Google under “road trip advice” showed almost 500,000 pages with such advice. That’s no small number so USA road trips are a past-time of a lot of people.
