Presented by Travel Quiz Weekly
If you are in searching for a top class beach in the U.S. Virgin Islands, then don’t miss the chance to experience Magens Bay at Saint Thomas Island.
Magens Bay is a one mile sandy stretch that is hailed by travel experts such as National Geographic as one of the most beautiful in the Caribbean and perhaps the entire world.
Although it is the only beach on St. Thomas that charges an entrance fee; the funds gathered are used to maintain the cleanliness as well as the facilities and amenities offered at the beach.
The beach is part of the Magens Bay Park, which covers 68 acres of land that include 6 acres of arboretum, 15 acres of mangroves and wetlands, and 5 acres of coconut groves.
At the arboretum, you can find huge trees that usually grow only in tropical continents. The park also has a 2 acre camping ground where you can spend a memorable night or two.
Along the beach are three bath houses and four shed like structures, which are available to rent for special events such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.
The sheds are complete with picnic tables, table benches and barbecue grills. The beach is equipped with showers, toilets, changing rooms.
There are assigned lifeguards on duty from 6 am to 6 pm every day throughout the year.
The heart-shaped Magens Bay has clear turquoise water that is usually calm and generates very little waves or current. From the shore, the depth of the water is gradual.
These characteristics make this beach a perfect swimming destination for families with little kids.
But swimming is not the only activity to be enjoyed on this beach, as snorkeling is also a popular activity here, especially on the rocky northern and southern coasts of the bay.
Take note that snorkeling in these sections may not be as impressive as other spots on the island.
Nevertheless, there is a wide range of other water sports that can fully satisfy you. There are booths around beach that rent paddles boats, sunfish and kayaking gear.
Sailing and windsurfing are also viable options to keep active while in Magens Bay. The necessary equipment for these activities is always available for rent.
If you are thinking of coming to Magens Bay to relax and rejuvenate your spirit, then you are definitely heading for the right place.
The beach offers all-day rentals of lounge chairs for your comfort and relaxation. Jet skiing and nude bathing are not allowed around the beach.
However, if you really want to take it all off, just swim to the nearby Little Magens Beach!
You do not need to go far to satisfy your hunger as there is a bar and restaurant close to the beach. The restaurant serves the usual western food like pizzas and burgers.
For your souvenir needs, a gift shop is also situated on the same concession area.
Magens Bay is a popular stop for cruise ships and island tours. It can get crowded especially near the restaurant. However, if you want to get away from the hordes of tourists, you only need to walk further down the shore as it gets quieter.
